I have been involved in wire drawing for some years now. But only recently, I noticed that the wire surface was uneven and had burrs when inspected under a microscope (see photos). The wire is a Ni-Fe alloy which is cold worked by swaging/hammering before it is cold drawn to the final diameter. What can be the cause of these burrs? I would highly appreciate any valuable input. I will gladly provide more information when needed.

  • $\begingroup$ What is the specific alloy, thermo-mechanical condition, and what is the process ?. The only place I have seen swaging used is to reduce diameter of the end of wire/bar to start it into the first die $\endgroup$ Feb 25 '21 at 15:27
