To retract these cheap hotel retractable pens, you simply turn the top of the pen. On average, after 50 times of retraction, even when I can smoothly turn the top, the tip no longer emerges! Why?

$\begingroup$ Can you post a picture of one torn apart? Fwiw: This looks more like a collectors collection than "a bunch of cheap pens", re the question one would assume a worn interface of some kind. so... teardown would reveal that interface $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ @twobob The pen itself isn't "torn apart". It looks perfectly normal from the outside. Would you still like me to take apart a pen and photograph it? $\endgroup$

$\begingroup$ Of course. We need to see the mechanism and any wear on it. $\endgroup$

Perhaps the refill needs to be screwed back in firmly inside. Those pens usually pull apart.
