Aluminum sections are extruded from billets heated to 800-925F under high pressure and then pushed through a die.

During the entire process temperature is carefully controlled, because depending on the aluminum alloy and performance expected heat stages at the beginning and exit out of die are crucial.

here is the diagram of the extrusion machine.

$\begingroup$ Proper search terms are "extruded aluminum" or "aluminum extrusions". If it's long and straight made out of aluminum, and if it has longitudinal striations, then it's probably extruded. $\endgroup$ – TimWescott Oct 16 '19 at 19:35
  • $\begingroup$ It's actually not economically unreasonable, if you're in a developed country, to get custom-made aluminum extrusions. Basically, if you can use up several hundred feet of the stuff it may be worth it to get an extrusion made. $\endgroup$ – TimWescott Oct 16 '19 at 19:36
